About the role
Copy Editor job opportunity is available at PUNCH Nigeria Limited for individuals who possess first degree in the English Language, Mass Communication or any of the Arts/social science courses.
Responsibilities
This job requires candidates to be able to perform duties that include the following:
- Impeccable grammar skills, a keen eye for detail, and a passion for ensuring accuracy and clarity.
- Ability to adhere to style guidelines and a desire to work in a fast-paced news environment are essential.
- Proofread text and correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors
- Verify factual correctness of information, such as dates and statistics
- Check text for style, readability, and adherence to editorial policies
- Arrange page layouts of photos, articles, and advertisements
- Rewrite text to improve clarity and readability
- Rework submitted stories to draw out stronger angles
- Ability to background stories with facts, figures and history as relevant
- Eagle eye for spotting likely plagiarism and drawing Editor’s attention to it promptly
- Computer literacy
Experience and qualifications
Desirable:
- Ability to work with little or no supervision
- Resourcefulness: approach news editing from more pragmatic angles
- Analytical skills – Use clear, logical steps and excellent judgment to understand possible news items from all angles
- Ability to post stories online
- Computer skills and familiarity with office proprietary software such as Microsoft Word, etc.
Education/Experience/Language requirements
- Between five (5) and 15 years of active on-the-job experience
- Minimum of first degree in the English Language, Mass Communication or any of the Arts/social science courses
- English proficiency is a must
- Ability to work with little or no supervision
- Resourcefulness: approach news editing from more pragmatic and dramatic angles
- Analytical skills – Use clear, logical steps and excellent judgment to understand stories and edit as appropriate
- Computer skills and familiarity with office proprietary software such as Microsoft Word, etc.
REMUNERATION :-
Very attractive but negotiable.
