Team Lead, Data Engineering at FirstBank – Nigeria

First Bank of Nigeria Limited is recruiting a full-time Team Lead, Data Engineering for a Nigeria-based position (Requisition ID 1849). The role directs enterprise data engineering strategy, architecture, platform delivery and the engineers responsible for resilient, secure data services.

Technical leadership and platform architecture

• Lead, mentor and develop data engineers while enforcing engineering standards, frameworks and coding practices.
• Architect scalable and resilient solutions for structured and unstructured data across on-premises, hybrid and multi-cloud environments.
• Oversee data modelling, data warehousing, platform architecture and metadata management.
• Establish reliable implementation practices for data pipelines, real-time processing and enterprise-grade data delivery.

Engineering quality, security and operations

• Guide CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, automated testing, containerisation, orchestration and monitoring practices.
• Apply data governance, lineage, security, access controls, auditing and data loss prevention measures under relevant privacy rules and banking policies.
• Coordinate with data architects, analytics leaders, product owners and business stakeholders to translate requirements into well-defined deliverables.
• Lead production support, monitoring, incident response, disaster recovery, root-cause analysis and preventive actions.
• Manage engineering projects, team capacity, budgets, risks, delivery schedules and service-level obligations.
• Promote process automation, innovation and continuous professional learning.

Qualifications and experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science or a related field.
• Master’s degree or industry certification, such as Google Professional Data Engineer or AWS Certified Data Analytics, is strongly preferred.
• At least eight years’ experience in data engineering, data architecture or software engineering, including two or more years in technical or people leadership within regulated or complex environments.
• Practical experience with large-scale data systems, including tools such as Spark, Kafka, Flink, Hadoop, Snowflake, Databricks or Airflow, RDBMS/NoSQL technologies and streaming designs.
• Strong programming experience using Python, Java, Scala or a comparable language, plus APIs, microservices and RESTful architectures.
• Deep understanding of CI/CD, DevOps, Terraform, Ansible, Docker, Kubernetes and other relevant infrastructure tools.
• Knowledge of encryption, access controls, privacy requirements and banking regulatory expectations.
• Track record of technical innovation, process automation and dependable operational delivery.
