AI Engineer at Caava Group – Lagos

Caava Group is hiring an entry-level AI Engineer in Lagos on a hybrid basis. The position supports AI development for Evolve, the group’s insurance management platform, and reports to the Technical Lead of the assigned team.

AI implementation and evaluation

• Implement scoped Python components, scripts and API integrations with guidance from experienced engineers.
• Prepare approved development and evaluation datasets, checking quality, labelling and transformations.
• Integrate model and large language model APIs into Evolve workflows using approved tools, prompts, structured outputs and response checks.
• Build repeatable evaluation cases for standard, edge and failure conditions and record errors, limitations and regressions.
• Investigate unreliable responses and integration failures, escalating technical, data protection and safety concerns.
• Apply approved security and privacy procedures when handling confidential data, credentials, prompts and logs.
• Support deployment and monitoring, tracking API errors, latency, usage and cost and helping with fallback or human-review arrangements.
• Document interfaces and evaluation results and contribute through Git, automated tests, code reviews and clear communication.

Required background

• Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science or a related field, or equivalent practical training supported by projects.
• Foundational Python ability demonstrated through study, internship or completed work.
• Basic understanding of machine learning, evaluation measures and limitations of model responses.
• Familiarity with REST, HTTP, JSON, Git, testing and debugging; confidence handling structured data.
• Attention to detail, sound data-handling judgement and willingness to seek feedback.

Useful additional experience

• FastAPI, Flask, pandas, NumPy or AI development projects involving model APIs, scikit-learn, PyTorch or TensorFlow.
• SQL, Docker, Java/Spring Boot, cloud systems, CI workflows or practical insurance use cases.

Working environment and progression

• Work with software engineers, QA and product teams using Python, model APIs and Evolve’s Spring Boot services.
• Progression to Associate AI Engineer depends on delivery, quality, growing independence and business needs.
