Maintenance Technician – Utilities at Ultimum Limited – Aba, Abia

Ultimum Limited is recruiting a full-time, on-site Maintenance Technician – Utilities in Aba, Abia State. The role is responsible for preventive and breakdown maintenance of utility plants and equipment, supporting the continuous and efficient operation of utility services.

Job purpose

Maintain utility plants and equipment, including water systems, CO₂, steam, electrical systems, compressed air, cooling plant and the effluent treatment plant. Diagnose and record failures, carry out required maintenance and keep related documentation accurate.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out technical work safely and comply with all safety rules and safe-work procedures.
• Ensure maintenance actions are completed on time and in full (OTIF), keeping machines within standard operating procedures and conditions.
• Perform machine rotations to support operational availability, reliability and maintenance access.
• Participate in improvement teams focused on the generation, distribution and consumption efficiency of utilities.
• Contribute to breakdown analysis of equipment in the work area to prevent recurrence, reduce minor stoppages, optimise maintenance costs and improve performance measures such as mean time between failures (MTBF).
• Perform routine maintenance and repairs on utility systems, including water distribution, gas lines and electrical systems.
• Inspect and diagnose utility plants and equipment to identify and resolve faults.
• Record maintenance activities and system performance in SAP Plant Maintenance (SAP PM) and in logbooks.
• Coordinate maintenance activities with other departments and external contractors.
• Respond promptly to emergency maintenance requests and system failures.
• Participate in developing and implementing preventive maintenance programmes.

Requirements

• NABTEB or WAEC Technical qualification.
• At least three years of experience in production and maintenance roles, preferably in the food and beverage industry.
• Ability to read and understand machine operations, maintenance manuals and general engineering documents.
• Experience analysing plant and equipment breakdowns to prevent recurrence, reduce minor stoppages, optimise maintenance costs and improve maintenance performance.
• Demonstrated communication and collaboration skills.
• Practical experience in utility maintenance or a similar role.
• Strong knowledge of utility systems, including water, gas and electrical systems.
• Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and maintenance equipment.
• Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Knowledge of engineering and production safety practices, with a strong commitment to safety and regulatory compliance.
