ABNL Limited is recruiting an Engineering – Reservoir Engineer / Advisor III for a contract assignment at Seplat House, Lagos. The senior reservoir engineer will support field development planning, recovery optimisation, reserves management and the professional development of younger reservoir engineers within Seplat’s asset and subsurface teams.
Reservoir engineering and field development
- Lead and contribute to integrated reservoir studies, field development plans and multidisciplinary asset reviews, including dynamic reservoir simulation, reservoir performance analysis and economic evaluation of development options.
- Direct reservoir surveillance, pressure and fluid data acquisition, well-test design and interpretation, material balance analysis and the modelling of vertical and horizontal well performance.
- Study reservoir behaviour and update reservoir management plans in response to changing reservoir conditions, production trends and well performance.
- Assess waterflood, gas injection, gas lift and other enhanced-recovery options; prepare technical studies, recommendations and field development proposals.
- Review production from producing fields, evaluate recovery performance and develop ways to optimise production and improve reserves maturation.
- Set the scope of reservoir studies, prepare specifications and tender documentation, evaluate technical bids and monitor contractor or study-team performance.
- Lead annual petroleum reserves estimation, evaluation, classification and booking, including the Annual Review of Petroleum Reserves (ARPR).
- Coordinate medium- and long-term production forecasts and inputs from field teams for well and facilities planning, asset budgets and business plans.
- Develop production testing proposals, provide execution guidance and interpret test results; apply reservoir fluid property modelling, pressure and fluid sampling and core-analysis data.
- Apply working knowledge of gas-condensate reservoirs, gas-field development and well-delivery operations.
Technical leadership and operational responsibilities
- Coach junior reservoir engineers and other technical colleagues through on-the-job training, technical guidance and the sharing of good reservoir-engineering practice.
- Contribute to reserves coordination, new business development, resource maturation, competency development and technical aspects of budget planning.
- Collaborate with Seplat’s development, production and asset teams, service providers, contractors and other stakeholders to deliver sound field-development decisions.
- Manage relevant bottom-hole-pressure, well-testing and software contracts, including scoping, technical and commercial assessments, approval processes and performance monitoring.
- Prepare accurate technical reports, briefing papers, presentations and well-documented studies, working with large volumes of data stored across different systems.
- Maintain data integrity and study quality under tight deadlines, including where subsurface information is uncertain or incomplete.
- Apply the company’s health, safety and environmental procedures, demonstrate Goal Zero safety practices, support emergency response when required and participate in incident investigations.
Qualifications and experience
- University degree in Engineering or an equivalent qualification.
- Eight to twelve years of relevant professional experience, including at least eight years of reservoir engineering experience with an operating company.
- Broad understanding of exploration and production disciplines and strong competence across core reservoir-engineering specialisms.
- Practical experience in reservoir simulation model construction, Earth Model-to-dynamic-model workflows, reservoir data management and quality control.
- Capability in material balance, decline-curve analysis, pressure-transient analysis, bottom-hole-pressure evaluation and other analytical modelling techniques.
- Knowledge of reserves evaluation, well and reservoir surveillance, production system optimisation, well modelling, waterflood and gas-injection management.
- Experience in well planning, multidisciplinary field development, technical risk assessment, economic evaluation and long-range planning.
- Good working knowledge of health, safety and environmental requirements in well management and completion operations.
- Strong technical communication and mentoring skills, excellent interpersonal judgement and very good English-language proficiency.
