Fiber Optics Engineer at Cobranet Limited – Kwara and Lagos (2 openings)
Cobranet Limited is recruiting two full-time Fiber Optics Engineers for locations in Kwara and Lagos.
Duties and responsibilities
- Carry out customer-premises installations, including racking, cabling, bonding and grounding.
- Coordinate fibre activities with other departments and the Manager of OSP Construction.
- Perform ring cuts on live fibre without affecting existing services.
- Test fibre using OTDRs, light sources and meters.
- Terminate, splice, bond, ground and test fibre-optic equipment to division standards.
- Maintain accurate equipment-location, splicing and termination records for the fibre database.
- Assist Construction and Engineering departments with accepting and bringing the fibre network into service.
- Install fibre-optic equipment, patch panels and related components.
- Monitor and communicate faults and carry out corrective actions on fibre and related equipment.
- Install demarcation enclosures and other telecommunications equipment.
- Apply modern fibre-splicing techniques.
- Use relevant tools and equipment, including OTDRs, power meters, traffic identifiers, digital multimeters, cleavers, strippers, buffer-tube splitters, cable-ring tools, hand tools, toners, duct rodders, ladders and bucket trucks.
- Work with minimal supervision, evaluate technical problems and implement appropriate solutions.
- Work normal and on-call schedules, including night shifts and overtime when required.
Education and requirements
- BSc or HND in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering or another related course.
- More than 25 years of age, as stated in the vacancy notice.
- At least three years of technical experience in a telecommunications or network-operations environment.
- Knowledge of Cisco switching and routing configuration and troubleshooting.
- Good understanding of telecommunications equipment operations and experience with multi-vendor telecommunications equipment.
- Independent problem-solving ability and strong teamwork.
