Operations Manager (Cement Trading) via Karisa Consults – Lagos

Karisa Consults Limited is recruiting an Operations Manager for an undisclosed cement trading business in Lagos. The role manages procurement, logistics, warehousing, inventory and supplier relationships, while improving cost control and the timely movement of commodities.

Procurement and supplier management

• Oversee sourcing and purchasing of cement and related commodities.
• Negotiate competitive prices, contracts, payment terms and reliable supply arrangements.
• Assess vendors against quality, delivery reliability and cost measures.
• Monitor cement prices, freight costs and market trends.
• Maintain working relationships with cement mills, commodity traders and freight partners.

Logistics and supply chain

• Plan shipments, inland transport, port clearance and last-mile distribution.
• Coordinate freight forwarders, shipping companies and customs agents for cross-border movement.
• Improve routing, transport costs and delivery performance.
• Follow applicable import and export regulations and documentation requirements.
• Manage warehouse and inventory functions and monitor stock levels.

Operational controls and leadership

• Build and implement standard operating procedures for procurement, logistics and administration.
• Identify cost savings, process improvements and opportunities to automate operations.
• Review cost per tonne, inventory turnover, order fulfilment and other operating measures.
• Coordinate demand forecasts with sales teams and financial controls with Finance.
• Work with trade finance documents, including letters of credit and bank guarantees.
• Supervise and develop warehouse and logistics staff, manage budgets and follow HSE requirements.

Qualifications and experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering or a related area.
• At least seven years in operations, logistics or supply chain management, preferably in cement, bulk commodities or building materials.
• Demonstrated ability to manage purchasing, transportation and warehouse operations together.
• Knowledge of cement supply chains, pricing, supplier negotiations and contract management.
• Strong leadership, analytical judgement, Excel and ERP competence.
• International trade, customs documentation, Incoterms and freight experience are desirable.
• Relevant supplier networks, SAP or Oracle experience and multilingual ability are advantages.
