An undisclosed employer recruiting through TopHire Africa is seeking a Head, Technical Services in Lagos. Oversee underwriting, claims, reinsurance, portfolio risk and technical governance for an insurance organisation in Lagos.

Job Summary

• The Head, Technical Services, is responsible for providing strategic leadership and governance over the Company’s technical functions, including underwriting, claims management, reinsurance, and risk survey.
• The role ensures the integrity of the Company’s insurance portfolio, sound risk selection, effective claims control, and adequate risk transfer, in line with regulatory requirements, Board-approved risk appetite, and long-term profitability objectives.

Responsibilities

Develop and implement the Company’s overall technical strategy in alignment with corporate objectives:

• Establish and enforce underwriting, claims, and reinsurance frameworks across all lines of business.
• Ensure technical independence and integrity in decision-making processes.
• Provide expert technical advice to Executive Management and the Board

Approve underwriting philosophies, risk acceptance criteria, and authority limits:

• Ensure consistent application of underwriting standards across the organization.
• Monitor portfolio performance, loss ratios, and risk concentration.
• Support profitable growth through disciplined risk selection and pricing governance

Ensure compliance with NAICOM regulations and other applicable laws:

• Align technical operations with the Board-approved risk management framework.
• Identify emerging underwriting and claims risks and implement mitigation strategies.
• Support enterprise risk management and internal control processes

Develop and oversee the Company’s reinsurance strategy and placement programs:

• Ensure adequate protection of the Company’s balance sheet through appropriate reinsurance arrangements.
• Manage relationships with reinsurers and brokers.
• Monitor reinsurance recoveries and counterparty risk.

Requirements

• Interested candidates should possess a BSc or HND with 7-10 years experience.
• Professional Qualification: Associate or Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (ACIIN / FCII) is required.
• Additional risk or actuarial certifications are an advantage.

Salary

N2,000,000 – N3,000,000 monthly.
