Legal Officer (Loan Recovery & Litigation) at Retrust MFB – Ikeja

Retrust Microfinance Bank is recruiting a full-time Legal Officer (Loan Recovery & Litigation) in Ikeja, Lagos. The position provides legal support to credit and recovery teams, helping manage delinquent loans through lawful debt-recovery and dispute-resolution channels.

Responsibilities

• Develop appropriate loan-recovery approaches with the Credit and Recovery teams, including support for non-performing accounts.
• Prepare demand letters, notices, repayment reminders and other legal correspondence to borrowers and guarantors.
• Review loan, guarantee and collateral documentation for completeness and enforceability.
• Support negotiations, settlements, litigation and alternative dispute resolution in debt-recovery matters.
• Coordinate with solicitors, courts and relevant institutions, and assist with lawful collateral enforcement.
• Carry out due diligence, monitor recovery cases, maintain legal records and advise management on credit-related legal risks.
• Ensure compliance with applicable banking regulations, laws and internal policies.

Qualifications and skills

• LL.B and qualifying certificate from the Nigerian Law School; must be called to the Nigerian Bar and hold valid practising status.
• Two to four years’ relevant legal practice, preferably in a financial institution, microfinance bank or debt-recovery organisation.
• Hands-on experience with loan recovery, debt enforcement, litigation and loan documentation.
• Good knowledge of banking operations and sector regulations.
• Excellent legal drafting, research, negotiation, analysis and interpersonal skills, with integrity and the ability to meet recovery targets.
