Tower Crane Operator at PeopleVantage Consulting Ltd. – Uyo, Akwa Ibom

PeopleVantage Consulting Ltd. is recruiting a full-time Tower Crane Operator in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. The operator will manage lifting activities on a construction site while protecting personnel, equipment and materials through strict adherence to safe lifting procedures.

Responsibilities

• Operate tower cranes to lift, move and position reinforcement, formwork, steelwork, concrete skips and other construction materials safely.
• Carry out pre-use inspections of hoisting equipment, brakes, switches, ropes, hooks and safety systems; verify load weights, charts, crane capacity and operating radius before every lift.
• Work with riggers, banksmen, signallers and lifting supervisors using approved hand signals or radio communication.
• Follow authorised lift plans, exclusion zones, site procedures and applicable safety requirements.
• Monitor wind and other weather conditions, stopping work whenever the manufacturer’s operating limits are exceeded.
• Record inspections, operating hours, maintenance observations and defects; promptly report faults, equipment damage and unsafe conditions.
• Coordinate lifting schedules with engineers and construction supervisors while maintaining a clean, safe crane cab and working area.
• Attend safety briefings and toolbox talks, support maintenance and incident investigations, and leave the crane secured in its prescribed out-of-service condition.
• Do not operate defective equipment or perform unauthorised lifts.

Qualifications and experience

• At least five years of tower crane operating experience on major high-rise construction or civil engineering projects.
• Relevant technical, vocational or trade training in crane or heavy-equipment operation.
• A valid tower crane operator certificate or demonstrable competence accepted by the employer and applicable regulations.
• Strong knowledge of lifting capacity, load charts, working radius, safe working loads, basic rigging, lifting plans and site risk assessment.
• Experience on high-rise or major commercial developments is an advantage.
• Clear communication, teamwork, concentration, precision, spatial awareness and a disciplined approach to safety.
• Physical and medical fitness for crane duties, including work at height where applicable.

Working conditions and performance expectations

• This is a site-based position involving long periods of concentration inside a crane cab, exposure to weather and close coordination with construction teams.
• Shifts, weekend work or extended hours may be required within applicable labour requirements.
• Performance is assessed through safe, incident-free lifting, completed inspection records, compliance with lift plans and load limits, limited preventable downtime, prompt defect reporting and timely completion of assigned lifts.
