Chief Engineer at Hyatt Regency Lagos Ikeja – Ikeja, Lagos

Hyatt Regency Lagos Ikeja is recruiting a full-time Chief Engineer to lead hotel engineering, building maintenance, safety and improvement projects in Ikeja, Lagos.

About the role

• The Chief Engineer is responsible for the overall operation, maintenance, repair, and improvement of all hotel facilities, building systems, and equipment.
• The role ensures a safe, efficient, and comfortable environment for guests and colleagues while maintaining Hyatt brand standards, regulatory compliance, sustainability initiatives, and budgetary objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering Operations

• Direct and manage all engineering and maintenance activities within the hotel.
• Ensure the efficient operation of mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), HVAC, kitchen, laundry, and life-safety systems.
• Develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
• Ensure prompt resolution of maintenance requests and equipment breakdowns.
• Conduct regular inspections of guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house facilities.

Health, Safety & Compliance

• Ensure compliance with Hyatt standards and local statutory regulations.
• Maintain all fire and life-safety systems in operational condition.
• Lead safety inspections, risk assessments, and emergency preparedness programs.
• Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations.
• Serve as a member of the hotel’s emergency response team.

Financial Management

• Prepare and manage the Engineering Department budget.
• Monitor utility consumption and implement energy-saving initiatives.
• Control maintenance costs and optimize resource utilization.
• Manage capital expenditure projects and renovations within approved budgets.

Team Leadership

• Recruit, train, coach, and develop engineering colleagues.
• Conduct performance evaluations and succession planning.
• Promote a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• Ensure adequate staffing and scheduling to support hotel operations.

Project Management

• Lead renovation, refurbishment, and property improvement projects.
• Coordinate with contractors, consultants, and suppliers.
• Monitor project timelines, quality standards, and costs.
• Ensure proper documentation and reporting of all projects.

Sustainability

• Drive Hyatt’s sustainability and environmental initiatives.
• Monitor water, electricity, and fuel consumption.
• Implement energy conservation and waste management programs.
• Support the achievement of corporate sustainability goals.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or related field.
• 8-10 years of engineering experience in hospitality, commercial facilities, or large-scale property management.
• 3-5 years in a leadership role within a luxury hotel environment.
• Pre-opening experience is an added advantage.
