Business Hub Manager at Nomba – Aba, Abia

Nomba is recruiting a Business Hub Manager in Aba, Abia State, to lead a merchant-services hub based within a trading market. The position is accountable for merchant growth, revenue, cost control, credit quality and the performance of its field sales team.

Business and portfolio responsibilities

  • Manage the hub’s commercial performance, budget and contribution to profit and loss.
  • Expand merchant relationships by combining three product areas: payment collections, credit and foreign exchange or over-the-counter (FX/OTC) services.
  • Increase adoption of POS and transfer collection services so merchant turnover informs appropriate credit and FX services.
  • Develop credit relationships based on reliable transaction flows, responsible lending decisions and repayment discipline.
  • Serve import-dependent businesses with suitable foreign exchange solutions as part of the broader merchant relationship.
  • Monitor sales, merchant acquisition, product bundling, loan performance, revenue and operating costs.
  • Build relationships with market leaders, trade associations, major merchants and other business partners.

Team leadership

  • Recruit, train and deploy Market or Account Managers and additional market canvassers as needed.
  • Ensure every field representative can explain collections, qualify credit opportunities and recognise potential FX customers.
  • Assign individual targets for merchant growth, loan portfolios and uptake of bundled services; review results weekly.
  • Run daily team briefings, weekly pipeline and credit-portfolio reviews and monthly performance assessments.
  • Coach staff through direct field visits and regular joint meetings with merchants.
  • Manage loan recovery follow-up alongside credit origination and address performance issues constructively.
  • Develop team leads who can manage additional sub-markets and expand the hub’s reach.

Qualifications and experience

  • At least eight years’ experience in financial services, fintech or lending-focused business development, with a strong record of meeting revenue or portfolio targets.
  • Experience in SME or retail credit, agent banking or trade finance is an advantage.
  • Proven ability to recruit, train and supervise field sales or credit teams, including teams of 20 or more people.
  • Sound commercial judgement, profit-and-loss literacy and the ability to manage growth, funding costs and credit risk together.
  • Relevant relationships in trading markets or a demonstrated ability to establish them.
  • Working knowledge of loan pricing, non-performing loans, collections, merchant acceptance and FX products.
  • Readiness for active market-based leadership, travel within the state and regular reporting to credit and senior management stakeholders.
